Google CEO Confirms AI Feature Coming Soon – Rival ChatGPT?
Mashum Mollah · February 3, 2023

With the inception of ChatGPT, there has been a lot of speculation about the response of search engine giant Google.

It's been a contention about whether ChatGPT is taking over Google.

Finally, the wait is over!

Google's CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed that the company plans to add AI features to its search engine.

Pichai's Statements On AI

Pichai's opening statement at the Q4 earning call on Wednesday was- "AI is the most profound technology we are working on today,"

He also added-

"In the coming weeks and months, we'll make these language models available, starting with LaMDA, so that people can engage directly with them. This will help us continue to get feedback, test, and safely improve them. These models are particularly amazing for composing, constructing, and summarizing. They will become even more useful for people as they provide up-to-date, more factual information."

What's More, Google Can Offer You

  • Google will develop the language model within the next few weeks or months. They will start testing with the LaMDA and make it available for people to engage with. Testing directly with the users enables them to analyze the pros and cons more clearly.
  • During the call, the key executives were heavily focused on AI. That signal they AI is something that is on their current priority list.
  • They confirmed that they have been working on this AI landscape since last year. Users can expect a lot from them in the coming months. Especially in the large models.
  • For developers and partners, Google will launch new APIs and tools, enabling them to dig deeper and explore opportunities.

People have been speculating that Google could use ChatGPT to replace Google search, which currently does not work well. In response, Google is testing its own AI-powered chatbot rival to ChatGPT and looking into ways to turn text into images or video. CEO Sundar Pichai has cautioned that Google needs to take a responsible approach, launching AI features in stages. He believes the market is ready for these products, and it seems Google is open to making its own version available.

Google is taking a slow approach and not allowing free reign. (No public firm wants a repeat of Tay.) Pichai indicates they are handling AI responsibly. Later, he said they would be "careful" and roll out AI as lab features, beta versions, then gradually increase usage.
