Generative AI In Search Is Now Available For 120+ New Countries And Territories
Mashum Mollah · November 11, 2023

If you frequently rely on online searches to find information, you're in for some exciting news.

Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) is taking a leap forward. It is expanding its reach to more than 120 new countries and territories.

Google’s new development is revolutionizing how you search for information online.

So, why should you care about this expansion? How can it impact your online searching experience?

Let's break it down in simple terms.

Discovering More Relevant Information

Firstly, generative AI in Search is your knowledgeable friend who compiles all the best resources and presents them to you.

With this expansion, they are bringing this incredible feature to more people worldwide.

Previously, it was limited to the United States…But not anymore.

Countries and territories such as Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, and many others are now getting access to this powerful tool.

Multilingual Capabilities

One of the exciting aspects of this expansion is the support for four new languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Indonesian.

So, if you prefer searching in your native language…

…you can now do so with generative AI in Search.

For instance, if you're a Spanish speaker in the United States, you'll be able to explore the vast sea of online knowledge using your preferred language.

Search Labs – A Playground For Experiments

Another interesting feature is Search Labs, which allows you to test early-stage experiments on Search.

This is accessible through the Google app (both Android and iOS) and on Chrome desktop.

Once enrolled in Search Labs, you can enable the SGE experiment and benefit from its capabilities.

In new countries, access via Chrome desktop is available right now, and access through the Google app will be enabled over the coming week.

This means you can start exploring the new generative AI in the Search experience without much delay.

Easier Follow-Up Questions

One thing we've all encountered when searching for information is the need for follow-up questions.

Sometimes, you start with one query, and more questions arise as you delve deeper into the topic.

Generative AI in Search now offers a more natural way to ask follow-up questions directly from the search results page. This makes seeking information and digging deeper into a subject a breeze.

Imagine you start by searching for "how to run with my beagle," and then your curiosity leads you to wonder, "How about hiking." You can now easily tap and enter your follow-up question.

This feature is set to roll out soon, starting in English in the United States, with further improvements to come.

Enhanced Translation With Context

Translation can be tricky, especially when words have multiple meanings in different languages.

Generative AI in Search aims to make your translations more precise. When you ask Search to translate a phrase with multiple meanings, it will be underlined.

You can then tap on them to indicate your intended meaning, reducing the chances of miscommunication.

Depending on the context, "Is there a tie?" can refer to a piece of clothing or a contest.

First, English-to-Spanish translations will be available in the United States. Plans are to expand to other countries and languages soon.

Definitions For Coding And Health Information

In August, Google introduced AI-powered overviews of educational topics like science, economics, and history.

Coding and health information are now included in this functionality.

When searching for relevant topics, you can hover over specific words to see their definitions or related images.

It will be available in English in the U.S. over the next month, with plans to expand to more languages and countries.
